Spring Meeting Summary – May 28, 2023
Opening Remarks: Joe Beaupre
The meeting was called to order at 10:30 by President Joe Beaupre. Joe welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending. Those in attendance introduced themselves.
Copies of the summary from the Fall meeting were distributed for participants to review. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the meeting summary.
Treasurer Report: Mike Botilla
The Treasurer Report was distributed and reviewed. Total Funds (savings/checking) as of 5/28/23 is $8,037. Since the last report out (9/4/23), there were $537 in disbursements and $950 in membership dues deposits.
A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the financial report.
Old Business
Bridge Improvements:
The new bridge and fish ladder are in place. Seems to be working well, should keep water levels more consistent throughout the year.

Thank-you to Merritt for keeping the directory up to date.
DNR News:
DNR will be tagging walleyes this spring. Here is what they told us and to be aware of:
In general, the only thing different from a typical season is that we are asking anglers to not remove tags from any fish they plan to release.
Loon/Eagle/Wildlife sightings:
Water Quality (Ann Lieberg) – not present:
Buoys:
Thank you for putting in and taking out the buoys.

- The water gauge didn't get taken out last year and/or can't find it. Will go look for it. Have tried calling DNR
- Action: Joe Beaupre to call Dan at the DNR about this.
Association Name Change Discussion:
- Prairie Lake Association vs Prairie Lake Improvement Association.
- Don't have anything tying us to the current name.
- Signs would need to be changed.
- No additional discussion in today's meeting, will re-address at the Fall meeting.
Boat Landing – Gene Radle from Fine Lakes Township:
- Work on this road starts Tuesday, May 30th.
- Taking out the old tar and building a new base.
- Will probably take 30 days and the goal is to have it completed by July 4.
- Action: Joe Beaupre to remove Prairie Lake Improvement Association signage at the boat landing.
New Business
Directory:
Thank-you to Merritt for keeping the directory up to date.
- If you don't get a newsletter, let Joe Beaupre know.
- Corrections to the directory should be emailed to Merritt Linnzie: [email protected].
DNR News:
DNR will be tagging walleyes this spring. Here is what they told us and to be aware of:
- Anglers do not need to report any tagged fish.
- Legal harvest of tagged fish is allowed.
- Please do not remove tags from released fish.
In general, the only thing different from a typical season is that we are asking anglers to not remove tags from any fish they plan to release.
Loon/Eagle/Wildlife sightings:
- A couple bald eagles sighted; a golden eagle sighted.
- Loons will start nesting; stay clear of young birds.
Water Quality (Ann Lieberg) – not present:
- Ann will be doing water quality readings.
- DNR is also doing some studies i.e. On the list in the next couple years.
Buoys:
Thank you for putting in and taking out the buoys.
- We are anticipating the need to buy 2 – 3 new lights ($150 a piece).
- Action: Members - if a buoy is broken, lights not working, report it on Facebook and let Joe Beaupre know.
Leadership Positions:
- Association Vice President is open.
- Board of Directors: Bob to stay on another 3 years.
- Motion approved to hold the Elections for new Board Office positions at the Fall 2023 meeting and the newly elected to start in their positions on January 1, 2024.
Membership Comments and Concerns
- Mosquito Control 2023
- Northern Outdoors for mosquitos – is not providing service this year, taking some time off.
- Internet options – looking for decent options. Comments from those in attendance that have service:
- Starlink - $90 month/$500 for startup equipment.
- Viasat – $110 month/no startup equipment, can't do a lot of streaming.
- History of Prairie Lake Booklet – Kelly Thies
- Cost is $10.00 (for printing).
- Action: Members to contact Joe Beaupre if would like one.
- Monday, Memorial Day – service will be at Fine Lakes Town Hall, 11:00 am then dinner after.
