Prairie Lake Improvement Association
Fall Meeting Summary - September 4, 2022
Opening Remarks
The meeting was called to order at 10:30 by President Joe Beaupre. Joe welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending.
Copies of the summary from the Spring meeting were distributed for participants to review. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the meeting summary.
Mike Botilla, Treasurer, handed out copies of the Financial Report. The association had a balance of $7,624 prior to the meeting. Expenditures since the Spring meeting included costs for stamps, buoy maintenance and new buoy lights. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the financial report.
Old Business
Association Leadership positions
Motion approved to hold the Elections for new Board Office positions at the Fall 2023 meeting and the newly elected to start in their positions on January 1, 2024.
Water Quality Report - Ann Lieberg taking over
Ann has been trained by Ken and will be taking readings in the future. No clarity readings to pass on.
Boat Landing / Road Improvements
Road leading to the public boat access is in poor condition. What is the status of getting this repaired and who would we ask? Discussion continued that we would possibly need to get on the agenda of a Township meeting for an update; Township meetings occur Tuesdays at 2:00 pm.
ACTION:
From Joe B: The Township will keep the project on their agenda for future meetings as working business, hence there is no reason for us to ask the Township to bring up the topic as an Agenda item. Anyone interested in the project can keep track, or go to future meetings. This is a Township/DNR project so therefore the PLIA is just a concerned member, and not a part of the actual project.
New Business
Prairie Lake Road Bridge
The new bridge at the lake outflow into the Prairie River is In process of completion. The fish ladder is completed.
Internet Lobbying/petition sign-ups - Mary Davidson
No Update or further discussion.
Mosquito Control 2023
Northern Outdoors was used this past summer by some members in attendance. No further discussion.
Buoys
Thanks for taking care of the buoys this year. Currently there are 3 buoys in storage.
ACTION: Members - if a buoy is broken, report it on Facebook and let Joe Beaupre know.
Loon/Eagle/Wildlife sightings
There is a Goose nesting on the island which seems to be keeping the loons off the island. Someone reported they thought there were 3 loons, others indicated they were aware of 2 nesting. The members in attendance were in favor of putting a buoy to note where loons are nesting with a caution sticker on it.
Association Name Discussion - Prairie Lake Improvement Association - started in 1964
Discussion regarding if this name is appropriate as it implies something is needed to be improved. Discussed the possibility of changing it to “Prairie Lake Association”.
ACTION: Joe B will look into and provide an update in the Spring
Member Comments and Concerns
Reminders
A motion was made and passed to adjourn the meeting.
Thanks again to all who attended.
Those present from South Shore Drive stayed to discuss improvements to the South Shore Drive Road.
