New Business
- Facebook – everything seems to be working well. Contact Joe Beaupre if you have information to post on the website or Facebook.
- Loon Activity -- There has been a lot of loon activity on the lake. No nests were reported.
- Buoy Management – All of the buoys have been adopted. Thanks to all who have been taking care of them. The one in front of Ken Hallberg’s place and a couple on the side of the island seem to have drifted. Chuck Moncur agreed to check on them.
- Northern Pike Regulations -- The DNR will be hosting a meeting on Thursday, May 30th at 6:00 pm at the Town Hall to discuss the status of Northern Pike rules and regulations. Joe Beaupre is planning to attend. The DNR has identified some options and would like to hear comments from the public.
- Beaver Management – Joe Beaupre opened discussion on beaver management. He noted that the Lake Association supported beaver management 2-years ago. No funds have been allocated since that time. One person noted that they had over a dozen trees taken down. Another person shared that government agents did some trapping and that the County took out seven beavers near the dam at the outlet. Joe Beaupre agreed to look into who did the trapping. There was a question about whether other lake associations pay for trapping and several commented that there are a few. After discussion there was a motion to continue to suspend funding for beaver trapping, monitor the situation over the summer and discuss the topic again at the fall meeting. The motion was seconded and approved.
- Dam and Outlet – It looks like there as been some surveying around the bridge and dam near the outlet. Joe Beaupre will contact the County to see if he can get an update.
- Community Supported Agriculture – Heather Bloom and John Hatcher asked for time on the agenda to share what they have been doing to set up a community supported agriculture project. Starting in July a farm stand will be set up on Friday evenings near Prairie Lake and Moen Roads to sell greens and fresh vegetables.
- Lake Association Officer Nominations – All current Association Officers were up for re-election. Joe Beaupre asked if there were persons interested in serving. A motion was made, seconded and approved to continue all officers in their current positions.
- Public Boat Access Road -- The road leading into the public boat access is in terrible shape. The County has responsibility for the blacktop portion of the road. DNR takes care of the rest. Joe Beaupre volunteered to contact the DNR to see if they will fix the road.
- Cromwell Road Improvements – Joe Beaupre volunteered to check on the status of road improvements in Cromwell at the intersection of TH 210 and TH 73.
- Sportsmen’s News – Prairie Lake will be featured in a recent addition of Sportsmen’s News. The article suggests that there are natural producing walleye and good crappie fishing.
- DNR Stocking and Fish Monitoring – The DNR will be electro fishing 2-3 nights in early June. They released 300,000 walleye fry into the lake in late May. Stocking is down from previous years because the DNR reports that stocking is less effective in Prairie Lake than natural reproduction.
- Participant Comments – Richard Collman announced that he had a 40-foot dock available with poles if anyone wants it.
At 11:15am a motion was made, seconded and approved to end the meeting.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.
