Prairie Lake Association
Fall Meeting – September 1, 2024

Opening Remarks:  Joe Beaupre
  • The meeting was called to order at 10:30 by President Joe Beaupre.
  • The Spring 2024 minutes were reviewed and approved,
  • PLIA Officers and meeting attendees were introduced,
  • PLIA Financials were reviewed and approved by Mike Botilla.
    • Copies of the Treasurer Report was distributed.

Leadership Positions:
Board of Directors:   Bob Stemwedel, Richard Collman, Barb Kelley

Association:  (1 year term)
  • President:                  Joe Beaupre
  • Vice President:         Still OPEN (nominate and Vote in Spring)
  • Treasurer:                  Mike Bottila
  • Secretary:                  Teresa Bruno
*All leadership positions are open on an annual basis.  Due to low interest of change in the PLIA over the years, officers/directors have stayed in their positions until they are no longer available, which then opens up a spot.  If anyone has interest in a position, all positions are open and it only takes a nomination to become involved.

Old Business
  • History of Prairie Lake booklets are available for $10.00 (cost is $10 to print).
    • Let Joe B know if interested in purchasing, it's a great book!

    • Small Island:  At the end of May there were 2 eggs layed and they hatched end of June.  Missing 1 of the chicks as of early August
    • In summary, 4 eggs were layed, we have 1 survivor.
  • Beaver Activity:  Let association member know if sight a beaver, the DNR will be engaged to trap and put up signs in the area while trapping.
  • 4th of July parade was a hit this year, lots of attendance and some VERY creative boats/pontoons and costumes!

New Business
  • Water Level – Kellie Rae:
    • Doesn't seem as low since put the dam in.
  • Water Quality – Steve Coskran:
    • Checks began in May and finished last week.
    • Lake as 4ft Clarity
    • Prairie River has 100 cm clarity
    • Hasty Brook has 99 cm clarity
  • There was interest by the meeting attendees to create a directory of what businesses cabin owners have used for various work.  The list would not be a recommendation but a resource for cabin owners when looking for specific work to get done such as septic pumping, mosquito control, etc.
    • Contact Lisa Mohs if you have resources to put on this list, she will gather the list.
    • Lisa to send to Jill B for posting on the website.
  • Wildlife sitings:
    • Mention of hearing coyotes at night
    • A mother bear w3/cubs has been sited
    • Other sitings:  Badger, Bobcat, Turkeys and Ottors
  • Buoys – THANK YOU once again to all of you who help place and take out the lake buoys.  Contact Joe B if you have any buoy issues, through facebook is usually the quickest.
